Lyra research unearths colour printing confusion
May 2007 — Newton (MA): Lyra Research and Recharger Magazine’s latest survey has revealed that the average printer user is out of touch with actual printing costs.Survey respondents were asked to share their perceptions regarding the cost of colour printing compared with the cost of printing in black-and-white. They were asked if colour printing costs the same as black-and-white printing, or if it costs two times, three times, four times, five times, or more than five times as much as the cost of black-and-white printing. When asked about the cost of colour printing, 18 percent of respondents were unsure or did not know. Only seven percent of respondents said that colour printing costs four times as much as black-and-white printing, which is generally believed to be closest to the correct answer. And 15 percent of respondents said that colour printing costs the same as black-and-white printing, while 39 percent said they think it costs twice as much.Lyra suggests that its findings indicate an opportunity for aftermarket supplies vendors to educate business users about the costs of colour printing while promoting their products as lower-cost alternatives.
