The overall inkject Printer market growth–despite a decline in standalone inkjet printer shipments, –is a growing sign of the transition from single function to multi-function printers among consumers.
Printer Shipment report for the second quarter of 2004, tracking quarterly shipments of standalone and all-in-one inkjet printers in Western Europe, showed that standalone inkjet printer shipments declined by 8% the second quarter 2004 versus the same quarter a year ago. However, thanks to a 73% growth of all-in-ones, total shipments for ink-related technologies amounted to a 16% increase in the same period. In the wake of the Olympics, the biggest growth rate was seen in Greece, with 382% growth in total.
All-in-one inkjets accounted for 44% of total inkjet shipments in Q2 2004, up from 30% on the same quarter a year ago. Seven countries shipped more all-in-ones than standalone inkjets in this period. Denmark leads the way, with 56% penetration of all-in-ones.
Meanwhile, tracking sales of business and consumer technology products through indirect channels of distribution in Europe, revealed that all-in-one penetration in the total inkjet market in UK, France and Germany, increased by 16 percentage points year-on-year, from 35% penetration in Q2 2003 to 51% in Q2 2004.
