Office Depot backpack giveaway to benefit city schoolchildren

Depot Inc. is giving 3,500 backpacks filled with school supplies to 10
Baltimore children’s organizations Wednesday.The company is donating
7,500 book bags statewide to underprivileged students. The backpacks
will be distributed through schools that work with disadvantaged
children in Maryland, as well as local nonprofits such as Agape House
Inc., Ashland Community Development Corp., Baltimore Christian School,
Baltimore County Police Athletic League, Communities of Care and Elmer
A. Henderson Elementary School, the company said.Backpacks will also be
given to Baltimore branches of national organizations including
Communities in Schools, Feed the Children, Court Appointed Special
Advocates and the National Foundation for Women Legislators.Since
beginning the program five years ago, Office Depot has donated more
than 1 million backpacks in the United States. This year the company
plans to donate 300,000 backpacks nationwide.Office Depot operates
1,049 stores in North America. Ten are in the Baltimore region.
