PC industry prepares for weaker gain
December
2005 – New York (NY): PC sales this year are heading for their weakest
gain since 2001 and some industry chiefs fear next year could be even
worse, reports The Wall Street Journal Online.
A six per cent
increase in sales of home PC units, down from a 10 per cent gain last
year, reflects increasing competition from flat panel televisions –
with expected price cuts next year to hit the industry further, the
website says.
It adds that a 41 per cent increase in notebook sales during the Thanksgiving weekend could prove to be this year’s saviour.
