People ‘fail to recycle’ at work
People are wasting masses of paper and water at work despite diligently recycling at home, a survey has said.
One in five recycle nothing at work, according to the survey of 2,000 adults by Envirowise, which advises industry on making efficient use of resources. The company estimated 32 million litres of water and a billion sheets of paper could be saved daily if people acted as they did in their own homes.Firms should do more to encourage green attitudes at work, the report said.
Green measures
Envirowise said workers blamed their employers for not giving them the chance to save energy or cut back on materials. The group has called on companies to provide recycling bins, install motion sensor lighting and make sure computers are shut down at night. Its survey found that one in seven of those questioned had no idea how much paper they used at work.It said many firms were not re-using or recycling inkjet cartridges and added that electronic and electrical equipment made up, on average, 4% of European municipal waste.
