Ricoh Company, Ltd. Acquires Hitachi Printing Solutions Group

October , 2004 Ricoh Company, Ltd. Will acquire Hitachi Printing Solutions, Ltd. (HPRS) and each of its subsidiaries, including Hitachi Printing Solutions America, Inc. (HPRSA). HPRS will become Ricoh Printing Systems, Ltd. (RPS), HPRSA, located in Simi Valley, CA, will become Ricoh Printing Systems America, Inc. (RPSA) and Hitachi Printing Solutions Europe, HRPSA's wholly-owned subsidiary and the center for European operations in Dublin, Ireland, will become Ricoh Printing Systems Europe (RPSE). These Ricoh Printing Systems companies will sell production printer systems, ink jet technology, desktop color laser printers and printer supplies in North America, South America, Europe and the Middle East. Customer and supplier agreements have been assigned to the new Ricoh entities and business activities are expected to go forward as usual. President and CEO Toshiaki Katayama will remain as head of Ricoh Printing Systems in Japan and President and CEO Osamu Namikawa will remain as head of Ricoh Printing Systems America. "This acquisition by Ricoh combines complementary printer technologies to make Ricoh a substantial competitor in the printing business on a worldwide basis," observed Mr. Katayama. Ricoh Printing Systems will continue to develop and produce both color and monochrome high speed cut sheet laser printers, continuous form laser printers, desktop color laser printers, and industrial ink jet technology. Ricoh Printing Systems America is a leading provider of production printing systems, including spot color and black & white digital printers and software solutions.
