Xerox sells headquarters, seeking new corporate home
STAMFORD, Conn. — Xerox Corp., a maker of copiers, printers and other imaging equipment, has sold its corporate headquarters as it seeks smaller quarters following downsizing over the years, officials said.The $54.8 million sale to a Norwalk developer closed Friday, about three months after the company announced plans to abandon its office complex.”It was faster than we anticipated, but it was definitely with terms that met our expectations,” Xerox spokeswoman Christa Carone said Thursday.Xerox will remain in its current offices until it finds a new home within the year, she said. Xerox is “looking to stay in the surrounding area,” Carone said. She would not be more specific.Xerox was founded in Rochester, N.Y., and moved its headquarters to Stamford in 1969. The company employs about 300 people at its headquarters, down from about 600 seven years ago.The building is 255,000 square feet on 25 acres.”We’ve been in this building for quite a while and we don’t need a building this size,” Carone said.
