Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) in Silicon Valley is considered to be a centre of emerging technologies. Keeping to this distinction, PARC has introduced a copy paper that is not only reusable but also doesn’t consume any ink or toner to print words. This research was funded by Xerox. This innovative paper can be reused for up to 100 times. Absence of toner and ink while copying makes the activity cost effective. The newly developed paper features specially-coded molecules that react when exposed to ultraviolet light emitted from a bar in a printer. As a result, the print is created on the paper. The molecules fade back to their normal state within 24 hours, destroying the prints. Hence the paper can be used once again for re-printing.Eric Shrader, area manager at PARC said that most of the offices print documents for one time use only. This one time use increases importance of the new reusable paper.“Our mission is to deliver innovations that solve the problems our customers face today while creating visionary technologies for tomorrow and beyond,” said Sophie Vandebroek, Xerox chief technology officer and president of the Xerox Innovation Group.Ten other innovative researches were also presented by PARC with the innovative paper that includes a ground-breaking way to capture and use solar energy, laser-based medical scanner etc.
