Office Depot closing Orlando warehouse
Office
Depot Inc. is closing its Orlando transportation and warehousing
facility on Gills Drive, laying off 125 employees as it consolidates
some of its operations to be more efficient during the recession.The
state was notified the workers will be terminated between Feb. 13 and
Feb. 24. A company spokesperson said some workers will be relocated to
other jobs within Office Depot, but most are being offered severance
packages and outplacement services.
Office Depot  has a similar
facility in Westin in South Florida. Orlando will be served either by
the Westin center or one in Atlanta, the company said.The move to close
the Orlando center was part of Boca Raton-based Office Depot’s
announcement in December that it would be closing 112 underperforming
retail stores and five warehouses around the country.

Staples to close Canton distribution center, cut 89 jobs

Staples
Inc. is closing its distribution and warehouse building in Canton, Ga.,
eliminating 89 jobs, the company said.Framingham, Mass.-based Staples
(Nasdaq: SPLS), the world’s largest office-supply retailer, is shutting
down its operations at 168 Etowah Industrial Court by June 26, the
company said.Staples acquired office supplies wholesaler Corporate
Express, which has its own delivery network, in 2008. Since the
acquisition, Staples has been trying to integrate its own delivery
system with that of Corporate Express, said spokesman Owen Davis.The
company’s review of its delivery networks meant that the Canton
warehouse and distribution center was no longer needed.
