Office Depot Offers Earth Day Specials in Tree killing Blunder

     by Stabley Times
What better way to celebrate Earth Day and save the planet than by stocking up on paper supplies at Office Depot? The office supply chain may be the world’s worst candidate for an Earth Day promotion, as the holiday is aimed at conserving the planet’s resources which includes saving the trees and forests. The bulk of Office Depot’s products are paper supplies made of course out of trees. Nonetheless, Office Depot sent out an email flyer to its customers today, asking “Why On Earth Pass Up These Great Deals?” Perhaps the answer should simply be “Because it’s Earth Day.”

In fairness, Office Depot is taking the Earth Day occasion to promote its “greenest” products including recycled copy paper, remanufactured printer ink, and eco-friendly cleaning supplies. Still, our vote for how best to honor Earth Day would be to not print out triplicate copies of that three sentence long email for once, rather than running to the paper store. It’s the kind of promotion we thought only Michael Scott of the fictional paper company in “The Office” could dream up. Perhaps he’s gone to work for Office Depot and we didn’t know it.

Earth Day is the annual holiday created in honor of finding ways to conserve the earth’s resources and keep us from killing the planet, or perhaps keep the planet from killing us. It was founded by Denis Hayes in 1970.
