PANASONIC SEIZES $500,000.00 OF COUNTEFEIT FAX TONERS CARTRIDGES
SECAUCUS, NJ, Nov , 2010 — Panasonic System Networks Company of America announced today that it has renewed its commitment to protect its nearly century-long brand reputation from infringements against copyrights, trademarks, patents and other intellectual property. A recent outcome of the company’s commitment to protect its brand was its cooperation with the Essex County, NJ Prosecutor’s Office on a raid, which resulted in the seizure of 2,500 fax toner cartridges badged with illegally-fabricated Panasonic labels.

This seizure of the counterfeit cartridges, which carries an approximate street value of $500,000, was just the most recent example of Panasonic’s pro-active offensive against the manufacturing, distribution and retail sales of counterfeit Panasonic products. In addition to this raid, Panasonic has brought several civil lawsuits seeking injunctions against further counterfeiting and the award of significant monetary damages against distributors of counterfeit merchandise.

Counterfeit office-machine consumables including the toner cartridges recently seized deliver significantly degraded performance, durability, reliability and hardware compatibility and can be the source of poor quality imaging, increased cleaning and maintenance requirements. In extreme cases, counterfeit consumables can cause actual hardware failure. Hardware failure caused by the use of counterfeit consumables is not covered by Panasonic’s warranty.
