Canon Reports Profit Increase in Q1 2012
In its Q1 2012 earnings statement released Wednesday, Canon reported a "third consecutive quarter of operating-profit and net-income growth, despite a slight decrease in net sales, through cost reductions and comprehensive effort to streamline expenses." The company’s total revenue was down 1.2 percent from the same period last year. The company’s camera business helped it grow both operating profit and net income, however, although the office business unit saw revenues decline nearly 9 percent.

Xerox Reports First-Quarter 2012 Earnings
Xerox reported its Q1 2012 results on Monday with revenue growth of 1 percent, largely attributable to its services business. Services, which includes Xerox’s business process outsourcing (up 13 percent) and document outsourcing (up 7 percent), now accounts for more than half the company’s total revenue, according to Chairman and CEO Ursula Burns, who cited the company’s leadership in BPO and managed print. The company’s technology business, which includes hardware and supplies, was down 5 percent.

Lexmark Reports First-Quarter 2012 Results
Lexmark International announced its financial results for Q1 2012 on Tuesday. The firm’s first-quarter revenue was $992 million, down 4 percent from last year’s $1.034 billion. Declines in hardware and supplies revenues, down 9 percent and 4 percent, respectively, contributed to the number. However, Chairman and CEO Paul Rooke noted the overall results were "in line with guidance," specifically pointing out the performance of managed print services and the company’s Perceptive Software business.
