Its existing distribution centre in Frenchs Forest, also in Sydney, will be relocated to the new site when it opens in the second half of 2013. Ricoh told ZDNet that over 100 staff will be transferred to the Eastern Creek site, but could not disclose whether there will be any new hires.

Construction will begin in January next year.

The distribution centre will be home to Ricoh’s warehouse, national contact centre, technical response centre, and technical support department. There will also be training facilities and a centralised service centre, all of which aims to drive more efficiencies into the company’s local operations.

"The facilities will not only help us stand by our value proposition of delivery less cost, waste, complexity, and CO2, it offers opportunity for staff to train and work in a centre of excellence that provides career development and progression," Ricoh managing director Les Richardson said in a statement.

The building will carry a Green Star rating of five, according to Ricoh.

In June, HP opened its AU$200 million datacentre in Eastern Creek.
