Sales Of Ink Jet Cartridge Shipments Slump
By: Mike Husterhttp at Photizo Group

November 18th, 2013 Worldwide ink jet cartridge shipments were, in effect, flat (1.66 billion units in 2012 to 1.64 billion in 2013) with a decline in worldwide revenue (28.45 billion in 2012 to $27.5 billion, a 3.5 percent decline), according to Photizo’s Supplies Advisory Service. Through the forecast period unit shipments of ink jet cartridges will see a decline of 4.4 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) while worldwide revenue will decrease six percent CAGR over the forecast period.

    Our View
The competitive landscape among ink jet OEMs has changed dramatically within the last five years starting with Lexmark exiting the consumer ink jet business in 2007 to pulling out of the ink jet space completely last summer. Fewer competitors does not indicate bright days ahead, though, as HP, Canon, and Epson vie for the remaining market share with Ricoh and Memjet in the wings. Despite new page-wide array technology released this year, the ink jet market has difficult days ahead as it competes against a laser-bias and declining page volume. Ink Jet OEMs must take a somber look at the market and discover new avenues of growth.
