Samsung Pops It’s Photo Printer Cherry

It’s a special moment when you do something for the first time and inevitably you get better at it with practice. That said (and innuendos apart), Samsung looks to be doing very well from the off
The SPP-2040 and SPP-2020 are the company’s first photo printers and they use dye diffusion thermal transfer technology to produce water and fade resistant 6 x 4in prints. Each page is said to take 60 seconds over a USB2.0 interface and are wireless capable with optional Bluetooth connectivity.

Both have very small footprints of just 180 x 136 x 67mm, with the main differences between the two being the 2in colour LCD for independent photo editing and 7-in-1 card reader on the SPP-2040.

Now let’s take a moment to go back to the print technology behind these two because it makes for interesting reading. Basically, unlike ink jet printers, Dye Diffusion Thermal Transfer ensures there is never a colour level issue (which happens when one colour of a cartridge on a ink jet goes low). The SPP-2020 and SPP-2040 have a built in ability to balance colour levels automatically, so – in theory at least – you should never get an awful moment of realisation that the cherished shot of you and your 14 year old Labrador just came out in pink.

If you decide to take a chance on either of these you’ll get a starter pack of 10 sheets of Samsung photo paper included (each model can hold 20 sheets in the input tray and 10 in the output tray). Prices aren’t cheap at £198 and £129 including VAT, but they are still inline with the rival offerings from Lexmark, Epson and HP.
