    TOKYO
    Japanese electronics
maker Sharp said it would invest four billion yen (37 million dollars) to build
a plant to make toner cartridges for color copy machines due to rising global
    demand.

The new plant, to be built in Nara, western
Japan, would start operations this summer and aim to raise annual production
capacity to 3,000 tons in 2007, a Sharp spokesman said.

“We are seeing strong global demand for color
copy machines worldwide and want to meet that demand,” said Sharp spokesman
    Masaaki Takeda.

The business daily Nihon Keizai Shimbun said
color copy machines would likely account for 40 percent of the global copy
machine market in 2008, up from 25 percent
