PHILLIPINES More than 600 pieces of
fake Epson ribbon and printer ink catridges worth P200,000 were
confiscated by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in recent
raids in three establishments in Makati and Mandaluyong.

Computer Sales & Services in Mandaluyong and Chardell School &
Office Supplies and its warehouse in Makati City were raided by teams
from the bureau’s Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) on
Tuesday.A total of 663 pieces of counterfeit Epson products were seized
from the three establishments, a report of the NBI Intellectual Property
Rights Division (IPRD) said.The establishments were raided after they
were reported to be engaged in the sale and distribution of fake Epson
products.
These raids were conducted after Seiko Epson
Corporation (SEC), which owns the Epson trademark, filed a complaint at
the bureau.Agents were armed with search warrants issued by Manila
Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Eduardo Peralta, Jr.Owners of the
establishments may face charges of trademark infringement and unfair
competition and could be fined up to P200,000 and face a jail term of up
to five years.
