Quill.com ( Staples) Recycles Nearly Three Million Ink And Toner Cartridges In Three Years
Cartridge Recycling Program encourages conservation in light of National Earth Month
In 1998, Quill.com proudly became part of Staples, Inc.
LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill., April 23, 2014– Quill.com, a provider of every product that busy professionals need to run their small-and medium-size businesses, announced today that it has recycled nearly three million ink and toner cartridges since launching a national Ink and Toner Recycle Program in 2011.
In 2013 alone, Quill.com collected 1.7 million cartridges and year-over-year participation is increasing at an average rate of 26 percent. The program is one of the first of its kind, enabling customers to send used printer cartridges to Quill.com using a downloadable, pre-paid mailing label. The returned cartridges are either reused as remanufactured cartridges or broken down and used in the production of other office supplies.
"The Quill.com team is thrilled at the Ink and Toner Program's success over the past three years," said Quill.com President Sergio Pereira. "We've transformed an otherwise neglected resource into sustainable product for our clients' continued benefit, and we look forward to encouraging more green business practices for years to come."
In addition to encouraging environmental conservation, the program incentivizes participants with the QuillCash™ loyalty component. Within about two weeks of receiving the cartridges, Quill.com deposits $2 per cartridge, up to $20 each month, into the customer's Quill.com account to put toward a future purchase.
Quill.com has collected a total of 2,982,856 pounds of used ink and toner cartridges. By doing so, the business has helped omit annual greenhouse gas emissions in an amount equivalent to about 260 passenger cars, according to Clover Technologies Group which handles the recycling and remanufacturing of cartridges.
