Staples Canada launches the Million Cartridge Challenge
Staples’
Million Cartridge Challenge recognizes the company’s mission to
re-route one million ink and toner cartridges from landfill sites by
Earth Day of next year, which falls on April 22. Starting tomorrow, the
retailer is asking all customers to drop off old ink and toner
cartridges to any Staples location.”Many Canadians don’t know what to
do with their empty cartridges, and now Staples is offering the country
an easy solution to a big problem,” said Steve Matyas, President of
Staples Canada. “This challenge is a great way to help our environment.
Collecting a million cartridges is an ambitious goal, but we believe we
can do it with the help of all Canadians.”Staples points out that it
takes 400 to 1,000 years for just one ink cartridge to decompose in a
landfill. Naturally, every cartridge returned by a Staples customer
between September 24, 2008 and April 22, 2009 will be sent for
recycling.
