February 2008 – Framingham (MA), USAAccording to today’s Wall Street Journal, Staples has ended its supply agreement with Asia Pulp & Paper Company (APP) amid fears of an environmental backlash.Environmentalists have been active in condemning APP over its environmental record and Staples is understood to have lost patience with its supplier’s failure to clean up its act, most notably with its wood sourcing and logging activities.Staples used APP for part of its private label product, and will now seek an alternative supplier.Portuguese supplier Portucel has already said this week that it is in negotiations with Staples over a global supply contract.
