Recycling company to collect cartridges for remanufacturer

    May 10, 2013

1recycleboxNew cartridge recycling scheme will see US recycler collect empties and send them to The Turbon Group for remanufacturing.

The Daily Journal reports that Goodwill Industries, a recycling company based in Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia, has partnered with a division of The Turbon Group – Recycle Your Empties – to recycle used printer cartridges in the US.

The company says that it aims to reduce the amount of cartridges going to landfill in the country, noting that it can take between 500 and 1,000 years for cartridges to break down after dumping, and that by recycling cartridges it can save three quarts of oil per cartridge.

All Goodwill donation centres will be collecting used ink cartridge donations, which will then be shipped to The Turbon Group’s remanufacturing facility in York, Pennsylvania to be made suitable for re-use. The company will also be providing free, prepaid mailers and boxes to ship the cartridges so that customers do not need to pay to recycle their cartridges.

In exchange for the cartridges, The Turbon Group will pay Goodwill a fixed rate for each cartridge collected, with the funds going towards Goodwill’s job training programmes, which the company says “help local residents with disabilities and disadvantages”.

Mark B. Boyd, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries, said: “In our 65 year history, we have mastered the recycling process. From recycling textiles and household goods to computers, carpet, TVs and now printer cartridges, we have learned how to maximize their value and sustain our environment.”
