Too Expensive: VW Turns Off
Color Printing In All German Plants
The car maker Volkswagen takes its austerity seriously: From April color prints in the German plants in Wolfsburg, Kassel, Salzgitter, Emden and Braunschweig as well as in the commercial vehicle plant in Hanover should be reduced to "the necessary level".
In an internal mail to the employees, the company has announced that no new color printer would be procured, with existing devices, the color option is turned off. A total of nearly 140 million pages have been printed according to VW last year at the sites, half of them in color. There is enormous savings potential here, according to the e-mail to the employees. There should be exceptions on request. Overall, however, the proportion of color prints should be kept below five percent.
In order to promote its developments in e-mobility and digitization, the Group has already imposed a strict austerity program anyway. In the next five years, between 5,000 and 7,000 jobs are to be canceled. Through increased automation and a smaller variety of models, the company also wants to continue to turn on the cost screw.
