U.S. Government Printing Office Seeks Name Change For Digital Age
    By E.Leigh
The Government Printing Office is advocating for a change in the agency’s name to reflect its work in creating and distributing digital products and platforms, Federal News Radio reported Thursday.

GPO wants to be rebranded as the Government Publishing Office and seeks to reflect a global shift away from paper into the digital age.

“We want this name change because we are just much more than a print operation,” Davita Vance-Cooks, the nation’s 27th public printer, said in an interview with the radio station.

“The most effective strategy of getting the information to most of the people is to put these products online,” she added.

Vance-Cooks said the proposal was brought up during her Senate nomination hearing in June and discussed in meetings with several oversight committees since, but no legislative moves have occurred yet.

GPO’s digital focus includes an update of its FDSys portal, use of social media and app development to engage younger demographics, she said.
