Uk:Eight Injured In Ink Factory Blast THICK smoke billowed from a factory which was torn apart by an explosion yesterday. Eight people were injured, four seriously, after a blast sent debris hundreds of feet into the air.More than 200 workers had to be evacuated from the ink cartridge recycling firm. Neighbouring residents were told to close windows to keep out toxic smoke as 100 firefighters battled to stop the blaze from spreading and igniting gas canisters in nearby warehouses. Witnesses, who heard the blast at 11.23am at Hobbs Industrial estate in Newchapel, near Lingfield, Surrey, told of the terrifying blast. One female worker said: “There was the most tremendous, deafening explosion which caused the ground to shake.“We saw a huge cloud of black smoke and debris just raining down from the sky.”Ian Thomson of Surrey Fire and Rescue confirmed that no one was missing last night, adding: “We are still fighting the fire but it is under control.”
