UK:HP WORKERS STAGE 1-DAY STRIKE
Over 1,000 workers in HP’s Enterprise Services group in
the UK staged a one-day strike on Friday to make their displeasure known
about salary freezes and job losses. I’m not sure how the UK job market
is for IT work but for a group that has been hit with over 3,400
layoffs already with another 1,000 planned, walking out just doesn’t
sound like it would be very effective.”Strike action is not a step that
our members take lightly,” said PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka in a
statement. “They have worked hard to help the company deliver
fourth-quarter revenues of $30.8bn [£19bn], yet have been slapped in the
face with job losses and a pay freeze for two years running.”
