Uk Office Products Dealers Form Alliance.
Three well-known office products dealers in the UK have joined forces to create what they have called the Vertical Alliance.

    By Andy Braithwaite.

The Irongate Group based in Derby, Guildford-based Office Gold and London dealer Anglo Office Group say the primary aim of the alliance is to deliver “a national solution with local service benefits with the broadest products and services offering in the market”.

The three resellers – with aggregate sales of more than £40 million ($50 million) and over 3,500 active customers – will combine their buying power to optimise purchase agreements, share marketing initiatives and development investment, and tap into each company’s specialist areas of expertise to expand their collective offerings.

“We identified common ground about how we operated as businesses and, as importantly, how we saw the potential opportunities in the market we wanted to develop,” said Irongate Managing Director Adam Noble.

“Each of us has significant expenditure in common areas, so pooling resources and buying power was an obvious benefit,” continued Noble. “Each of us also has ongoing and identified investments in service development initiatives, which again made sense for us to share the costs of or, where possible, deliver an even better solution than the one we would have got individually.”

Noble added that there was a “big advantage” in the fact that each dealer has its own specialist divisions or areas which can now be shared across the group without the need for significant individual investment.

He said: “Irongate has very strong print and workwear divisions, Office Gold is particularly impressive in catering supplies, beverages, high-level security logistics and the education market, and Anglo is leading the way in London with its fast-expanding business services division and its zero-emission delivery vehicles and environmental solutions.”

Noble revealed that, as a group, they would begin the sales and marketing integration of these areas and other areas they had identified.

“The plan for the Vertical Alliance is to optimise the development opportunities for our individual businesses by combining our knowledge and specialist areas, to target multi-sited and national business opportunities as a combined entity, and to work with our suppliers – existing and new – to deliver a marketing programme to a broad client base that realises growth opportunities through a joined-up approach,” he stated.

“There is a lot to do, but a lot of opportunity too as well,” Noble concluded.
