http://www.dealersupport.co.uk/news/2815/toner-banned-from-hand-luggage/UK:TONER BANNED FROM HAND LUGGAGE & UNSECURE CARGO FLIGHTS From
midnight tonight, toner cartridges larger than 500g will not be allowed
as hand luggage on flights departing from the UK, Home Secretary
Theresa May told the House of Commons. They will also be banned on cargo
flights unless they originate from a regular shipper with security
arrangements approved by the Department for Transport.
She said
the ban would initially be in place for a month, with a view to find a
long-term security solution for print cartridges.”During that time, we
will work closely with the aviation industry, screening equipment
manufacturers and others, to devise a sustainable, proportionate,
long-term security regime to address the threat,” May said.”Department
for Transport officials are already in technical discussions with the
industry, and my Right Hon Friend the Secretary of State for Transport
will chair a high-level industry meeting later this week to discuss next
steps.”The news comes after two explosive devices were discovered
inside HP printers on cargo planes at the weekend.
