printermaker Lexmark International gave details Monday of eight new
all-in-one inkjet printers, including the industry’s first line of
Web-connected models, that it will release this fall.Web connectivity
has become the newest trend in printing with Hewlett-Packard recently
announcing its first such device. Lexmark’s line will include three,
all of which connect to the Internet and utilize a 4.3-inch touch
screen to showcase online items. Users can then print directly from the
printer’s touch screen, bypassing computers.
The printers will
range in price from $199 to $399 and are designed primarily for small
and medium businesses. The touch screen models also utilize what Lexmark
calls “SmartSolutions,” which allows users to customize certain tasks
like faxing a certain group of people, scanning to e-mail templates and
printing two-sided identification cards.Other new features are separate
ink tanks, as well as wireless capability on all eight models including
Wireless-N. The printers also include “eco mode,” which automates
two-sided printing, as well as a business card scanning feature that
automatically uploads contact information to address books in
applications like Microsoft Outlook. The products will begin shipping in
September.
