Xerox Laysoff 123 Janitors Then Hands Out Food Baskets For The Poor
Xerox wraps up Webster layoffs
By Matthew Daneman,The last day on the job for close to two dozen janitors at the center of a labor dispute at Xerox Corp. came Wednesday.
The janitors are being replaced as Xerox outsources its facilities maintenance operations in Webster to commercial real estate services company JLL. The company notified the state Labor Department in August that it anticipates cutting a total of 123 positions due to the maintenance change.
While some management and supervisors have been hired by JLL, no hourly workers have, said Gary Bonadonna Sr., manager of the Rochester Regional Joint Board union, which represents local hourly Xerox workers. Twenty three hourly janitors were laid off Wednesday, he said.
As of Tuesday, all the janitorial work had been transferred to JLL, with the cuts Wednesday completing any layoffs, according to Xerox.
The union sued Xerox in October, arguing the JLL move violates a contract with Local 14A of the Rochester Regional Joint Board. It also has filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board.

Xerox hands out food basketsXerox is working to give families in need this holiday season access to food. All day long delivery trucks have been dropping off food baskets.
It's part of the "Xerox Annual Holiday Campaign to Fight Hunger." Monday morning we saw hundreds of volunteers sort and pack food to be delivered. We're told more than 2,200 families across the Rochester area will benefit from the campaign. Organizers say more people than ever came to help out this year.
"We've even had people who've aren't associated with Xerox, who've never volunteered before, heard about us and signed up," says organizer Bernadette Durman. "We're trying to make some families' Christmas just a little brighter."
We're told this year's campaign raised more than $45,000 to help provide a week's worth of groceries for families.
