Xerox offers buyouts to unspecified number of workers
Xerox Corp. on Tuesday offered voluntary buyout packages to several groups of employees in the United States.
The company declined to say how many workers received the separation packages or how many jobs it’s looking to eliminate. Employee groups receiving the offers include Xerox’s enterprise business group.
During the first three months of this year, the company spent $22 million on severance packages for roughly 500 workers, most of them in North America. The company said in April that it expected to spend $94 million over the subsequent 12 months on restructuring costs such as severance.
The buyout packages are being offered through mid June. Employees who apply for them and are approved will leave Xerox by June 29, spokesman Bill McKee said.
He said questions about whether the company would turn to layoffs if it doesn’t receive enough volunteerspplications were “premature.”
