You Know Your Office is Obsolete If … 10 Signs That Suggest You Need to Enter Xerox’s Office Makeover Contest

STAMFORD, Conn.–03/16/2004–Is your small or midsized business relying on yesterday’s technology to meet today’s workplace demands? If you’re not sure whether a workplace update is wa-a-a-y overdue for you, here are 10 ways to tell if your office is obsolete:

    — The smell of carbon paper is stronger than your coffee and you leave blue fingerprints on everything you touch.

    — You think a stapler counts as a high-tech gadget.

    — Your top 10 expenses include paper by the roll for dot-matrix printers, typewriter ribbons and white-out.

    — An “I like Ike” bumper sticker is still stuck to the side of your desk.

    — You have paper cuts from forever collating stacks of reports by hand.

    — The only thing ergonomic about your chair is that it has four legs.

    — You call customers on a rotary dial phone.

    — The only mouse in your office is scurrying behind the file cabinets.

    — You think adding color to your documents means slapping on a sticky note.

    — Your definition of a Web browser is the spider crawling around your inkjet device.

If anything sounds frighteningly familiar, business owners and employees can enter the new “Help! My Office is Obsolete!” makeover contest, kicking off today and sponsored by Xerox Corporation (NYSE:XRX) and Entrepreneur Magazine.

The contest winner will receive a complete office makeover, including state-of-the-art technology from Xerox, new office furniture, and interior design consultation and services from Thom Filicia – an interior designer on the hit TV show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

Contestants can find complete contest rules and an entry form at http://www.entrepreneur.com/helpmyofficeisobsolete. Entries must be submitted before June 30 by a full-time employee age 18 or older of a continental U.S.-based company that has an office environment of 10-50 employees, and has been in business for at least one year. Only one entry can be submitted per company. Home offices are ineligible.

Winners will be published in the November issue of Entrepreneur Magazine.
