Xerox Sells-Off  Part of Former Tektronix’s Color Printing Business
Xerox said this morning that it’s sold a portion of its operations in Wilsonville for $32.5 million to a South Carolina company called 3D Systems.

The buyer, 3DS, said it will bring on more than 100 Xerox engineers and contractors, who will continue to work within Xerox’s 137-acre Wilsonville campus in buildings 60 and 61.

3DS makes 3-D printers, which create plastic objects instead of images on paper. It’s an emerging technology that has created excitement among large manufacturers and home enthusiasts as well. 3DS said its research spending could double over the next few years as the company puts its new engineers to work and completes some commitments to Xerox associated with today’s deal.

Xerox has about 1,000 employees in Wilsonville, down from 1,500 two years ago. In 2011, it transferred 120 employees at the site to Indian contractor HCL Technologies.

Xerox acquired the Wilsonville operation in 2000, when it paid $925 million in 2000 for Tektronix’s color printing business.
