Woman charged in Wal-Mart return scam
A Rubidge Street woman faces charges after Wal-Mart security caught a customer returning an item she didn’t pay for, city police said.
Police said a woman went to the return counter at the Chemong Road Wal-Mart Friday at 2 p.m. and returned an $89 box of printer toner without a receipt.She was handed a gift card and went back to the store to do some shopping, police said.Staff became suspicious of the transaction and when security reviewed a tape they saw the woman grab the toner from the electronics department and head to the return counter, police said.
Police said she was wanted by the Northumberland OPP on a theft charge.Stacey Ann Montemiglio, 28, is charged with obtaining merchandise by false pretence and two counts breach of her undertaking. She has a March 20 court date and was held in custody on the outstanding OPP warrant.
