Sharp Restarts Toner Manufacturing in Memphis Tennesse USA
Sharp Manufacturing Co. of America has reopened its 50,000-square-foot toner production facility, which had been shuttered for three years.
The facility immediately created 20 new jobs for toner production. Sharp has now created 200 local jobs since 2009, mostly related to solar panel production, including 70 people last year, according to TC Jones, vice president of human resources and general affairs for Sharp.
Sharp moved its toner production from Japan to Memphis, although its primary customer remains the China market. Jones says material, labor and freight costs are cheaper in Memphis, and the company will seek U.S. customers as well.
