Another Dribble from the MFP/Toronto Probe MFP computers obsolete – City faces $63M in upgrades; But it must still pay $20M lease
The City of Toronto proposes to spend $63 million to buy new computers so it can junk obsolete equipment it leases from MFP Financial Services – but it must still fork over $20 million in lease payments.
Though the city’s main contracts with MFP don’t expire until March, 2005, the equipment is now so old it’s getting hard for the city to deliver services or add new ones, such as online transactions.
Toronto would like to adopt a 311 system where residents could punch in that number and get information on city services or report problems. That would require major upgrades.
