Xerox Announces New 2025 Workforce Reduction.
October 15, 2025 — Rochester, N.Y. Xerox is moving forward with a new round of workforce reductions in the wake of its recent acquisition of Lexmark International, a move the company says is part of a larger effort to streamline operations and accelerate its ongoing business transformation. The announcement comes shortly after Xerox finalized its $1.5 billion purchase of Lexmark, a Kentucky-based company best known for its imaging and laser printing technologies. Xerox leaders say the reductions are aimed primarily at addressing “overlapping positions” between the two companies and aligning the combined workforce with a unified operational structure. “Integrating Lexmark into Xerox allows us to operate more efficiently, but it also means we must make difficult decisions regarding roles that duplicate one another,” the company said in a statement.

    Employee Support
Affected workers will receive severance, job placement assistance, and opportunities to apply for other roles within Xerox or Lexmark. The move underscores Xerox’s plan to streamline its printing operations and expand into software and services. The Lexmark acquisition is expected to strengthen its enterprise printing capabilities, though experts warn of typical integration risks like cultural clashes and talent loss. Xerox may make further changes as it absorbs Lexmark and refines its structure, signaling its push to become leaner, more agile, and more competitive in a rapidly evolving market.

Xerox also sent out the following FAQ sheet to employees:
Refer to the information below for answers to questions related to the global workforce reduction, role transitions, and where to go for support.

    1. Why are we reducing our workforce?
The acquisition of Lexmark strengthens Xerox’s core print portfolio and builds a powerful print and managed print services business better suited to meet the evolving needs of our clients in the hybrid workplace. By combining our strengths, we are creating greater balance within our core print business and positioning the company for long-term profitable growth, further supporting our Reinvention. In doing so, simplifying our organization and reducing our workforce are necessary steps in that journey. The decision to reduce our workforce was not an easy one to make, but we felt it was a necessary step toward establishing long-term viability for Xerox.

    2. When will layoffs occur?
Today, we began employee notifications related to our workforce reduction measures as part of our efforts to integrate and realign the company’s operations. Additional updates may be communicated in the coming months based on business needs and local employment laws and practices.

    3. Which organizations are in scope for these changes?
We are taking actions across all levels and areas of our organization, where it makes sense.

    4. How are these roles being selected?
Roles are being identified based on the needs of the business. Careful review was given at all levels and Xerox’s non-discrimination policy was strictly followed throughout the process.

    5. When is the last day for the impacted employees?
Many employees will depart Xerox on the same day that they are notified of the impacts to their roles, while others will depart on a future date driven by business needs or local employment laws and practices.

    6. Will clients/vendors/partners be notified if their point of contact at Xerox is changing?
We will ensure that our clients, vendors, and partners are notified appropriately. If you are in a client-, vendor-, or partner-facing role, you will receive a set of approved talking points to aid in conversations.

    7. How are we transitioning the work of those impacted employees?
Business continuity plans are being activated to help ensure a seamless work transition. Our leaders will be working through go-forward plans with their teams in the coming days and weeks.

    8. Will impacted employees be able to apply for open roles?
Yes, impacted employees are encouraged to review open roles at both Xerox and Lexmark.

    9. What is the severance package for those impacted by the workforce reduction?
Impacted employees will receive a packet of information, including details on severance based on local separation policies.

    10. Will there be more layoffs in the future?
We have a responsibility to ensure the health of the business and maintain Xerox’s long-term viability. Therefore, as is common practice for all public companies of our size, we will continue to evaluate the needs of the business to follow through on that commitment. If future reductions and/or reorganizations are necessary, our commitment is to share information in a timely and transparent manner and treat impacted employees with dignity and respect.

    11. I was informed that my role / responsibilities have changed. Is there anything I need to do as a result?
Not at this time. As we move forward with the next phases of our organizational design work, your manager will share additional guidance and support to help you navigate this transition successfully and understand what’s expected in your evolving position.
The pay, titling, and overall scope of your new role will be reviewed in the coming months and may be revised accordingly. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

    12. What are we doing to retain employees?
We remain committed to providing a fulfilling work environment where our employees can thrive and make a meaningful difference. We continue supporting our employees in a variety of ways such as comprehensive and inclusive benefit programs, pay for performance, learning and development opportunities, and the ability to give back to their local communities, among others.

    13. Are we in a hiring freeze?
We are prioritizing internal growth opportunities and referral options for external talent that are vital for business continuity and operational stability.

    14. Is this workforce reduction related to our year-to-date results?
This year, we have put significant emphasis on reinventing Xerox for long-term, profitable, and sustainable growth to achieve our goal of being a leading services-led, software-enabled technology solutions provider. 17. Do we plan to announce these actions publicly?
No, we do not. Direct any media inquiries to Justin Capella.

    18. What can I do to support the business?
Embrace change and approach your work with a growth mindset. Remain focused on delivering excellent experiences to our clients and partners. You should also be mindful about where and how we spend across the organization. Continue postponing non-critical expenditures (e.g., travel) and look for opportunities to create efficiencies where possible. Stay connected to company news and keep open lines of communication with your team members. Support one another and treat each other with kindness and respect.”
