     Xerox getting aggressive.
Xerox this week sent out to its dealers a letter that warned of damage being caused by aftermarket ink sticks in a worldwide alert that claimed “over 1,500 catastrophic printer failures caused by allegedly ‘compatible’ generic inks.”  The alert and accompanying notice encouraged the customer to avoid the problem by buying only Xerox/Tektronix brand consumables.

Generic solid inks are sometimes advertised as “meeting or exceeding” Xerox specifications,” the alert further stated. “This comparative advertising is false. Xerox specifications are confidential to Xerox and thus not available to third party suppliers.”

“When buying generic solid inks, consider that the cost to replace a damaged printhead is often in excess of $2,200” and “Xerox Warranty or Service Agreement does not cover the repair.”
