BREACH: Toshiba America Business Solutions
(TABS) Compromised Names and Social Security Numbers from 2023-2024.
The American subsidiary of Toshiba, Toshiba America Business Solutions (TABS), recently experienced an email compromise that allowed an unauthorized actor to access personal information and Social Security numbers. TABS promptly identified and addressed suspicious activity within its email environment, taking immediate steps to secure its email tenant. The breach involved unauthorized access to data, including names and Social Security numbers.While the exact number of affected individuals remains unspecified, a notification letter submitted to the Office of the Maine Attorney General confirmed at least one impacted Maine resident. Additionally, TABS reported the breach to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, suggesting that multiple individuals across several US states may have been affected.
The breach lasted nearly a year, occurring between April 2023 and March 2024, but it was only discovered in May 2024. TABS promptly reported the incident to law enforcement, and an ongoing investigation is underway. The company has also organized a complimentary two-year identity monitoring service for those affected.
Toshiba America Business Solutions is a subsidiary of Toshiba TEC Corporation, known for its office printing and retail solutions across the US and Latin America. TABS has an annual revenue of approximately $1.1 billion and employs nearly 4000 people.
