Brother Europe has teamed up with Sony Pictures to launch a Ghostbusters-themed on-pack promotion for Brother ink cartridges, bringing one of Hollywood’s best-known entertainment franchises into the printer supplies market. According to Campaign’s report on Brother’s Ghostbusters promotion, the partnership aims to attract consumer attention and strengthen brand recognition in the competitive ink cartridge market. By connecting everyday printing products with a popular movie franchise, Brother is using entertainment-driven marketing to help its original OEM ink supplies stand out and engage consumers. Meanwhile, Canon is preparing to expand its printer Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) technology, with rollout expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027. According to Canon’s official announcement on printer EDR technology, the technology is designed to detect suspicious activity and strengthen cybersecurity for multifunction printers and other office printing devices. Together, these announcements highlight two different strategies shaping the printer industry: Brother is using a recognizable Hollywood franchise to promote ink cartridge sales, while Canon is investing in advanced security to protect network-connected printing environments.
