July 20, 2026 — Canon’s last manufacturing plant in the Philippines officially ceased operations on June 19, 2026, affecting approximately 1,400 employees and ending the Japanese imaging giant’s manufacturing presence in the country. Canon Business Machines (Philippines), Inc. (CBMP), located in Tanauan City, Batangas, had manufactured laser printers and related products since beginning operations in 2013, but Canon moved to shut the facility amid changing global demand for office printing and a broader restructuring of its manufacturing footprint. For the printer industry, however, the bigger story is that Canon has now closed major laser-printer manufacturing operations in both China and the Philippines within a relatively short period. Canon shut down its laser-printer manufacturing facility in Zhongshan, China, in late 2025, followed by the June 2026 closure of its last Philippine factory, potentially signaling continued consolidation of global printer production as OEMs adjust manufacturing capacity to lower office-print volumes, changing workplace printing habits and shifting resources toward more profitable or growing businesses. While Canon continues to maintain sales, marketing and customer-support operations in the Philippines, the closure leaves 1,400 employees affected and marks the end of Canon’s manufacturing era in the Philippines, while raising broader questions about where the company’s future laser printers will be produced and how its global manufacturing strategy is evolving.
