Crackdown: Chinese Counterfeiter Sinocopy Folds Under Canon’s Latest Legal Pressure.
Tonernews.com, Hollywood Florida, April 21, 2025 — Canon Inc. has struck a decisive blow against Chinese firms Shanghai Sinocopy Industrial Co., Ltd. and Zhongshan Sinocopy Electronic Co., Ltd., exposing their involvement in producing and selling counterfeit toner cartridges for HP printers.
After a lengthy legal battle, the Shanghai Intellectual Property Court ruled in 2024 that Sinocopy had infringed Canon’s Chinese patent by manufacturing fake versions of several toner models, including THCE410X–THCE413A and THCB540A–THCB543A. Though Sinocopy initially appealed, it ultimately backed down, agreeing to halt the infringing activity and pay an undisclosed settlement.
The case underscores a growing problem: counterfeit printer supplies continue to flood markets worldwide. While Canon hails the verdict as a win for intellectual property enforcement, many see it as just one victory in a much larger fight.
