EFI and AGFA Form Distribution Agreement to Fill Wide-Format Printer Gaps, With Rules.
Two of the leading players in the wide-format inkjet printer market, EFI and AGFA, have announced a strategic partnership that will allow them to exchange some of their printer models and technologies, and to offer a more comprehensive and diverse range of products to their customers.

The partnership, which was revealed last Wednesday at EFI’s facility in Londonderry, New Hampshire, involves sharing some of the high-end hybrid and roll-to-roll LED UV printer models that each company has developed and manufactured. A hybrid printer can print on both rigid and flexible substrates, while a roll-to-roll printer can print on flexible materials such as banners and vinyls.

EFI and AGFA have identified gaps in their product portfolios that can be filled by the other company’s printer models. For example, EFI has been a leader in roll-to-roll printers, but lacked a high-end hybrid system, while AGFA has been a frontrunner in hybrid printers, but lacked a 5-meter roll-to-roll system. By sharing these printer models, both companies can offer a more complete and competitive solution to their customers, without having to invest time and money in developing their own systems.

The shared printer models will be rebranded by each company under their own names, and will be sold and serviced by their respective sales and support teams. The customers will also have the option to choose between EFI’s Fiery and AGFA’s Asanti front-end software solutions for the printers, depending on their preferences and needs.

The partnership will be officially launched at the FESPA trade fair in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where EFI and AGFA will showcase the new printer models in their booths. The trade fare, which is scheduled for May 9-12, 2024, is one of the largest events for the wide-format printing industry, attracting thousands of visitors and exhibitors from around the world.

EFI and AGFA have stated that the partnership will benefit both companies by enabling them to leverage their respective strengths and synergies in the wide-format inkjet printer market, and to focus on product innovation in their specialized domains. They have also clarified that the partnership is not a merger or an acquisition, and that they will remain as separate and competitive entities in the market. They have assured that they will not target each other’s customers or prospects with the shared printer models, and that they will continue to provide high-quality products and services to their existing and potential customers.
