Landmark Partnership in Digital Printing.
Heidelberg and Canon have officially finalized a global cooperation agreement for sheetfed inkjet printing, initially announced at drupa 2024. Under the agreement, Heidelberg will globally market the new Jetfire 50 B3 inkjet printing system with Prinect integration, offering it as part of a hybrid production ecosystem that combines inkjet and offset printing solutions. A future B2 version, the Jetfire 75, will also be introduced.Heidelbergโs CEO, Jรผrgen Otto, and CSO, David Schmedding, presented the market launch plans for the Jetfire 50 to Canon representatives. Despite being unveiled at drupa, the system continues to generate strong customer interest, the company reports.
According to Heidelberg, users particularly value the ability to integrate the Jetfire 50 into a hybrid, AI-driven production environment alongside Heidelbergโs offset printing solutions. In response to this interest, the company has already issued several quotations, which are now leading to firm orders. Since September, a Jetfire 50 has been available for customer demonstrations at Heidelbergโs โHome of Printโ in Wiesloch-Walldorf and at its showroom in Japan.
“This digital printing collaboration with Canon marks a key milestone in the growth strategy for our core business,” said Mr. Otto. “In addition to selling the Jetfire 50, weโll benefit from recurring revenue through services and consumables over the press’s lifetime. In commercial printing, this enables us to capitalize on the expanding digital printing market, significantly strengthening our position.”
Mr. Schmedding added that the first Jetfire 50 units will be delivered in spring 2025 to customers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. He emphasized that users would benefit from Heidelbergโs expertise, deep market knowledge, and what he described as the most comprehensive service network in the industry. The company plans to expand availability of the press to all its regions.
With the Canon partnership and the integration of industrial digital printing solutions, Heidelberg says it is filling a gap in its portfolio. The collaboration enables Heidelberg to offer comprehensive solutions across various printing technologiesโtoner, inkjet, offset, and flexographicโintegrated into a hybrid workflow via Prinect, tailored to customer needs. “This is unique in the industry,” Mr. Schmedding concluded.
