Print.com is making a potentially important move in the evolution of print procurement by launching what it calls an industry-first print platform inside ChatGPT, allowing customers to use conversational AI to search print products, generate ready-to-order configurations, receive live pricing and evaluate delivery options without navigating a traditional print website. Instead of manually selecting paper stock, sizes, quantities, finishing and production specifications, users can simply describe what they need and let AI help translate those requirements into a specific print configuration and quote. The development, which uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to connect AI with Print.com’s platform, points to a broader transformation in commercial printing: AI could become the new front door for print purchasing, moving the industry from catalog-driven ordering toward conversational procurement. For printers, resellers and suppliers, the bigger question is whether customers will increasingly ask ChatGPT to find, compare, configure and eventually purchase print products rather than searching individual supplier websites—a shift that could reshape print e-commerce, estimating, customer service and procurement.
