Epson is doubling down on its belief that the global laser printer market will steadily decline as refillable ink tank printers become the preferred choice for consumers and businesses seeking lower operating costs and improved sustainability. Having exited the laser printer business, Epson says its Heat-Free inkjet technology consumes significantly less energy, produces less waste, and delivers a lower total cost of ownership than traditional toner-based laser devices. The company also points to strong global demand for its EcoTank printers as evidence that refillable ink systems are reshaping the printing industry. While Epson sees ink tank technology replacing many laser printer applications, major manufacturers including HP, Brother, Canon, Xerox, Ricoh, and Lexmark continue to invest in laser printers, which remain the preferred solution for high-volume office printing due to their fast speeds, sharp text output, and heavy-duty performance. The shift toward ink tank printers is expected to continue, particularly in the home, education, and small business markets, although laser printers are likely to remain an important part of the enterprise printing landscape for years to come.
