tonerKeymasterLos Angeles Officially Bans Chinese Clone Toner: Legal Action Now Possible.
The Los Angeles City Council has taken a significant step in combating plastic pollution by certifying an environmental impact report for its Comprehensive Plastics Reduction Program. This initiative aims to provide a strategic framework for reducing single-use plastics throughout the city. The unanimous vote (10-0) included provisions that could directly affect businesses, particularly smaller establishments. Notable among the proposed measures is a ban on single-use printer cartridges, which has raised concerns about the environmental impact of these often-disposable items. The council is also considering introducing reusable foodware for dine-in services and compostable options for take-out.
Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky, chair of the Energy and Environment Committee, emphasized the urgency of addressing plastics pollution, noting its widespread effects on the environment and public health. โWe feel its effect right here in Los Angelesโfrom plastics in our oceans and landfills to microplastics in our water supply,โ she stated, underscoring the pervasive presence of microplastics even in human bodies.
As the council moves forward, they recognize the potential challenges for businesses. Yaroslavsky reassured stakeholders that the city would engage with them to ensure that new policies are both fair and feasible.
Councilman Paul Krekorian highlighted the need for systemic change, referencing the average American’s consumption of plastic. โThe only solution is eliminating or significantly reducing single-use plastics in the first place,โ he asserted, reinforcing the necessity of the program as a blueprint for future policies.
Following the meeting, Krekorian, Yaroslavsky, and Councilman Bob Blumenfield held a press conference to discuss their aspirations for the initiative. They pointed to international examples, like the United Kingdom’s bans on various single-use plastic items, as a benchmark for what Los Angeles can achieve.
In considering the reportโs recommendations, city officials will prioritize initiatives that can be swiftly implemented, while also working closely with business owners and street vendors on policies that require more careful consideration.
Blumenfield stressed that the program is not solely about bans; it aims to create a cultural shift regarding plastics use. Krekorian echoed this sentiment, stating, โWe do this work not just to enact specific policies, itโs to create cultural change.โ
As Los Angeles moves forward, the focus on reducing single-use plasticsโincluding printer cartridgesโreflects a broader commitment to sustainability and environmental health.

The ongoing sale of Ninestar toner cartridges in the U.S., despite the companyโs ban under the UFLPA, underscores a disturbing reality: forced labor remains embedded in global supply chains. Javitch Law Officeโs investigation into potential civil action could set a significant precedent, not only for enforcing the slave labor ban but also for ensuring that those profiting from human exploitation are brought to justice. As this case unfolds, it will serve as a vital test of the strength of U.S. labor laws and the nationโs commitment to combating modern-day slavery.
