E-WASTE CRACKDOWN: Malaysia is putting the global electronics-recycling industry on notice, with authorities reporting that 436 containers of e-waste have already been re-exported to their countries of origin in 2026, while another 578 containers are scheduled to leave beginning in October. Malaysia’s Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) are targeting the removal of all 1,259 e-waste containers by the end of 2026, following coordinated enforcement involving customs, environmental authorities, police, and port officials. Bernama report on Malaysia’s e-waste crackdown Malaysia’s environmental authorities have separately reported inspecting 1,181 suspect containers through September 15, finding 648 containers carrying scheduled waste and ordering them removed from the country. Malaysia Department of Environment enforcement update For the printer, copier and toner industries, the crackdown raises a bigger question: where do discarded printers, MFPs, monitors and electronic components actually go after they enter the international recycling chain? While the latest Malaysian figures do not identify the contents as printer-specific, the enforcement represents a major warning for recyclers, brokers and exporters handling electronic equipment: “recycling” does not mean a free pass to ship questionable e-waste overseas.
