Nutech opens as Ingram closes
EVEN consumables-orientated distributor Nutech IT Supplies is amazed at its fortunate timing in opening a new Christchurch warehouse.
The day before Ingram Micro closed its storage facility in the city, eliciting angry responses from South Island resellers, Nutech opened its new site.
Acknowledging the timing was good, Nutech sales and marketing manager Nigel Willard says it was purely coincidental.
“We could not have planned it better if we tried,” he says.
Nutech is sharing parent company Croxley Stationery’s long-established Christchurch warehouse and delivery systems, which Willard believes will ensure the success of the venture.
“Croxley has a very efficient distribution centre in Christchurch, which has been very successful for a number of years,” he says.
“It means we can go in with a very low-cost model. We can now offer an improved and cost-effective service to the South Island.”
The warehouse features a collection point, while resellers can expect overnight deliveries across the South Island, says Willard.
The facility was opened to meet strong demand for such a service from South Island customers, he adds.
Nutech’s core business is supplying toner and ink cartridges.
It is the major Brother distributor in the country and stocks the main OEM consumables brands, but also operates a large cartridge remanufacturing facility at its Albany base.
“We receive 25,000 empty cartridges a month through collection programmes,” says Willard.
These are remanufactured into the company’s own consumables brand, Emarq, which he says offers high margins to resellers.
Recently the company expanded into other consumables, such as photo paper and Verbatim media, as well as Kodak digital cameras. “Our focus is on imaging technology,” says Willard.
