Brother to build sister factory in Hai Duong
Japanese-owned Brother Industries Ltd recently announced it had been issued a licence to establish a wholly-invested subsidiary in Hai Duong province’s Phuc Dien Industrial Zone.
Hachiro Hasegawa, general director of Brother Industries Vietnam, said the subsidiary would build a US $40 million factory with a capacity to produce up to 30,000 units of communications products, including printers and fax machines, for export each month.
Brother Industries, which signed a lease agreement with the Nam Quang Infrastructure Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, said it selected Vietnam for the new factory because of the nation’s advantages in terms of labour quality and cost, and its stable socio-political situation.
Construction work on the 75,000 square metre factory, located 45 kilometres south-east of Hanoi, is scheduled to begin in April, and the company says the factory should be operational by April 2007.
Phuc Dien 1 and Phuc Dien 2 industrial zones are expected to draw up to US $300 million of investment from 30 suppliers associated with the project by 2007
