World largest laser beam printer factory put into operation
    dec 2005
A US$50 million laser beam printer factory, the largest of its kind in the world, officially became operational in the Que Vo Industrial Zone (IZ) in the northern province of Bac Ninh on Dec. 24.
Covering an area of 20 hectares, the wholly Japanese-invested factory, which is designed to have an annual capacity of nearly 8.5 million products, will meet some 35 percent of the world market’s demand for laser beam printers and create stable jobs for 3,000 local workers.
Canon Group, the project’s investor, is currently providing over 50 percent of the total number of printers in the world.
The construction of projects to produce ink jet printers in the Thang Long Industrial Zone and Canon’s laser beam printer project in the Que Vo IZ will create opportunities and prospects for Vietnam to develop a new industry and attract more domestic and foreign investors.
After three years of operation, the 311-ha Que Vo Industrial Zone has lured more than 40 domestic and foreign investors, including many world-famous groups such as Canon, Mitac, Mitsuwa, Nippon Steel, Sentac, Takaotek, Seiyo, Liwayway, Seewell, I-Sheng, Henry and Jenway, said Dang Thanh Tam, General Director of the Kinh Bac Urban Development Co., the investor of the IZ.
So far, 23 investors have been licensed to build factories in the IZ, of whom foreign investors have invested $124 million, accounting for 95 percent of the Bac Ninh province’s total foreign investment
